What is an Instant Pot Anyway?

Me and Infomercials

I will say, I am a SUCKER for infomercials. You can pretty much sell me anything in the middle of the night lol! A couple of years ago, I was up late watching TV when I came across an infomercial for an amazing product – the Power Pressure Cooker XL.  Although I do try really hard to curb my informercial addiction-this pressure cooker (also known today as an instant pot) was way too good of an offer to pass up.

Today’s Pressure Cooker – Also Known as the Instant Pot

Now this pressure cooker here is not your mother’s old pressure cooker.  You know- the big heavy one without the timer that could explode if you didn’t put enough water in it or you didn’t turn it off in time (true story-lol!).

The Power Pressure Cooker XL is a multi-cooker (also referred to as an instant pot) that does the job of a slow cooker, electric pressure cooker, rice cooker, steamer, yogurt maker, sauté/browning pan, and warming pot. It’s a single appliance that does the job of seven different kitchen appliances or tools.

So Many Possibilities

I have had this pressure cooker for about a year now and have used it to cook so many dishes.  It’s been used in. my house to pressure cook beans, oatmeal, potatoes and roast-just to name a few.  We have also slow cooked chili,  chicken soup and stew and used it to steam vegetables and cook rice.

This Thanksgiving, I made our mashed potatoes in it and they were AMAZING.  I couldn’t believe how fluffy and moist the potatoes turned out.  The best part of this though was that I didn’t have to keep a close eye on the potatoes.  This freed up a lot of time.  I was able to use this time to prepare the other dishes I was serving.  After seeing how easy it is to make these delicious potatoes in the pressure cooker, I will definitely never make mashed potatoes in a pot again.

In addition to what I have already mentioned, the Power Pressure Cooker XL can be used for canning.  I have never canned anything before, but after seeing how well all of the other features of this appliance work, I am really tempted to can something.

How Does It Compare?

The Power Pressure Cooker XL is the only pressure cooker I have ever used, so I can’t say how it compares to other brands.  I can, however, say that the Pressure Cooker XL is easy to use and to clean.  It also cooks great food in a fraction of the time that it would take using a conventional oven or stove top.

Do you have a pressure cooker?  If so, I would love to hear what brand you love the best.
